"IJUP" POSTER

This project starts with the need to develop a poster to the “Segundo Encontro de Jovens Investigadores e Criadores da Universidade do Porto, IJUP (Investigação Jovem na Universidade do Porto). These title was chosen to identify the government incentive to the Porto University students to participate in research activities. The stimulus and attractiveness were taken into account when building the poster, having always in mind that this poster should publicity the event. The project started by having a first experience, which consisted of building a poster that responded to the contest requirements and also it should meet Holger Matthies scope of work and characteristics.
We opted to explore one of the most important characteristics of the author, the foto-montagem. We aimed to create an ambiguous and enigmatic image which could generate a feeling of doubt in the spectator, thus, matching the surreal character of Matthies work.
We did a series of photos to feet and, then, we inserted different mouths photos in each finger in order to give the pluridimensional impression of the event. A scientific event that gathers students from all the different areas of Porto Univeristy scope of teaching, an event for these students to present their currently ongoing research projects. Each character would represent a different area of science.
Also, the image manipulation to match the text was also taken into account. Matthies work defines itself for the capacity of being able to make a perfect match between text and image achieving a coherent and balanced composition. The image is supported by the text many times. This way, the text, which was limited to the information about the event (title, date, context submission, event organization) matched the image harmoniously. We searched for a chromatic unit, using only three colors, red, white and black in the background.
Thus, we achieved a composition and structural simplicity where a vertical central line predominates, which supports all the poster´s structure, as well as an imaginary horizontal line created by separating the image from the text and which acts as a support to the. The elected typographies where Futura and Geosans, in order to maintain the initial simplicity and t give more importance to this work ambiguity.
