CREATING EMOTIONS
To creat emotions with an image is, sometimes, a hard task. More than telling a story, the really important matter is to create emotions, capture the attention and feed curisosities in each new page.
This project aim was to realize a maquetização of an A5 book (approximately), stapled in the middle, with cover and inside. The content should be composed of stains which served as a basis to the narrative evolution. These stains were achieved by pouring a portion of sugar and then, with different movements several shapes were registered photographically. The origin of the stain was not important at all, only I wanted that the final result was pleasant and with impact. All the images were created with the different agitation movements of the sugar using a paper as background. After having taken the photos all these photos were treated and the color was inverted. The background paper, which was black, appears white and the sugar appears as a black stain.
In terms of the narrative creation, the main goal was not a construction of a story with begginig, middle and an end, at all, instead, I wanted to recreate a sequence that, above all, could have the potential to. Not being able to predict what’s coming on the next page is one of the objectivers. Thus, I worked with patterns of wihte/black, full/empty, heavy/light in order to prevent chromatic and composition monotony. In the end I was able to create a composition which won not only because of the ambiguity of the competitive stain (once the initial raw matter is not perceived) but also because of the strength to surprise.
